How to remove spywareA number of our customers have had problems removing spyware.1. There are a number of spyware removal programs, but no single program removes all spyware. We have found that running all the following programs solves most problems: spyBot Search & Destroy Spyware Blaster CW Shredder Ad-aware 2. Download and install all above programs. Close all programs, including any windows explorer or 'My Computer' windows. Run all programs one by one, making sure you use any 'Update' features before scanning. This will update the software so that it scans for the latest known spyware. Reboot if you are asked to by one of the programs. 3. Preventing Re-Infection Most spyware is installed secretly when you install certain types of software such as filesharing programs or download managers. These include, but are not limited to: NetAnts, BearShare, Kazaa, Limewire, Audiogalaxy, Imesh, Morpheus, Grokster, Xolox, Blubster / Piolet, OneMX, FreeWire, EarthStation5, BitTorrent (certain versions only). Ensure that you uninstall any of the above software, or software that you believe to contain spyware. (Try a google search for 'Program Name spyware' [remove quotes] if you are unsure about a certain piece of software) Inform all users of your computer(s) about installing such software. You may wish to setup your computer to only allow certain users to install software, though this is beyond the scope of this article. Spyware or hijacking software may also be installed when you visit certain websites. To prevent this change the security settings on your browser to block Active X. See Changing IE Security Settings for instructions on how to do this in Internet Explorer.
